Brazil knocked out of Copa America by handball goal

Brazil were knocked out of the Copa America group stages last night. Madness. But what was really crazy was that the goal was scored with Raul Ruidiaz's hand

Brazil needed just a draw against Peru to progress to the knockout stage of the Copa America. So most people had their money on the five-time world champions to get the job done.

With 16 minutes to go, and the game at 0-0, Peru substitute Raul Ruidiaz had the ball in the back of the net. The problem is, he swung his arm it to get it over the line – not Thierry Henry style, this was more volleyball-esque.

Naturally, the Brazil players (and fans) were livid, and protested vociferously. Alas, after a delay which lasted way too long, the referee allowed the goal to stand. Unbelievable. The game ended 1-0, meaning Brazil fail to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 1987.
