Steak with herb butter recipe

This bulletproof steak recipe is tasty, filling and good for you. Give it a try...


  • 1 tsp MCT oil
  • 230g hanger steak
  • 1 lemon
  • 60g butter
  • 1 tbsp minced chives
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (oregano, thyme or rosemary)
  • Salt
  • 90g spinach


  1. Rub steak with MCT oil and set aside.
  2. Grate 2 tsp of lemon zest, then halve and cut into wedges. Squeeze 1 tsp of juice and set the remaining wedges aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine zest, butter, chives, herbs, and 1 tsp sea salt. Stir in lemon juice.
  4. Heat pan to medium-high heat. Season steak with sea salt, place on grill, and reduce heat. Cook to taste, not charring meat.
  5. Transfer steak to a plate, top with 2 ½ tbsp compound butter and rest for five minutes.
  6. Slice the steak thinly across the grain, and serve with spinach, topping with meat juices and a squeeze of lemon.
