Brussels Sprouts ()

The new kale: Brussel sprouts
A sprout is for life, not just for Christmas. These windy demons are part of the cruciferous family (along with kale and broccoli) and are high in nutrients and low in calories. They’re packed with vitamins B and C, and they also help improve bone health.

Try it…
Roasted in olive oil for 35 mins, until the skin goes crispy.

Lunch: cactus ()

The new coconut water: Cactus water
Let’s be honest, we never liked that coconut water. Cactus water is tasty, has been enjoyed in Mexico and South America for centuries, and is getting popular with health-conscious types. It’s full of vitamin B, C, iron and magnesium, and it strengthens the immune system.

Try it…
In your next smoothie.

Freekah ()

The new quinoa: Freekeh
Great, another grain we can’t pronounce (FYI it’s freak-ah). This cracked wheat is lower on the GI index than most grains, so it’s ace for steadying blood sugar levels. It’s low-carb, low-fat and high in protein, fibre, calcium, iron and zinc. Basically, it’s good for you.

Try it…
In place of rice in your curries.
