Meet the seriously special Lamborghini Centenario Roadster...
The Centenario Roadster is equal parts show and go. It’ll bolt from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds, which is quicker than almost anything, and will keep going all the way up to 217mph. These Top Trump winning figures are courtesy of its mighty 6.5-litre V12 engine. It’ll churn out 770 hp along with 507 lb-ft torque. Best of all, for the roadster they’ve increased max revs from 8,350 to 8,600 rpm, so it’ll really scream. Downside? 13mpg.
Get a grip
Front wheel steering just doesn’t cut it any more. The Lamborghini steers with its rear wheels too. This lets you turn more sharply at low speed and increases stability at high speed. To make sure you stay glued to the road, there’s also an extending rear wing, which rotates and moves depending on how much downforce you need.
Inside, you get a big 10.1-inch touchscreen, which features Apple CarPlay and lets you do everything you might expect, including browsing the web. It also lets you do things you may not expect. There’s a telemetry function for track driving so drivers can record and compare speeds, times, lateral and G-force data. There are even two optional interior cameras to record your experience. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Not just a lick of paint
Not content with regular paint – or even regular colours – Lamborghini went to crazy lengths to make this car look special. The Silver colour, called Argento Centenario, was made exclusively for this car. What’s more, to get that matte finish, the designers applied a new high-tech process dissolving the metal while diluting and reducing the appearance of the metal grain to give that silky finish.
The Roadster is based around a super-strong, crazy-light carbon fibre monocoque frame, and much of the bodywork is also carbon fibre. That means lightness, and lightness means goodness. It’ll stop from 62mph in just 31m: that’s half the distance suggested by the Highway Code.
The Centenario was made to honour the 100th birthday of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini, hence the ludicrous looks, performance, exclusivity, etc. Prices start at a cool €2m plus tax. Just in case you are rushing to remortgage your house, stop! They’ve only made 20 of them and they’ve all been sold. Sad!
