Get your hands on the graphic novel Steve McQueen In Le Mans
“I’m not sure whether I’m an actor who races, or a racer who acts.” Steve McQueen was so nifty behind the wheel that he could do all his own stunts.
1971 film Le Mans wasn’t his biggest box-office hit but it became a cult classic. It kept plot and dialogue to a minimum in favour of high-speed shots of the 1970 24-hour race in a docu-style.
In tribute to the man and the movie, the graphic novel Steve McQueen In Le Mans is out this month. Three years in the making, it tells the story of the 1971 film, and takes you back to the rivalry between the iconic blue and orange Porsche 917 and the Ferrari 512. It gives you an idea of the endurance it takes to drive a car all day and all night, and gives you the perfect excuse to read a comic again.
