Make the most of the agility ladder

Increased speed and agility are things we’d all love to add to our arsenal, but they’re nebulous concepts at best, especially when they’re not framed within the context of a specific sport or activity. How do you improve these things, then? By using a tool like the speed or agility ladder. Simple choreographed footwork exercises will improve key components of both speed and agility, such as better balance, improved foot-eye coordination and cognitive functions such as increased concentration. Step to it!

Inside, Outside

Lay an agility ladder out in front of you on the floor. Step into the first square with both feet, then out with both feet, leading with the left. Then into the next square and out again. Go back down the ladder leading with the right.

Zig Zag

Start with both feet in the first box, then step out left foot first into the space to the right of the ladder. Then step back into the next box, leading with your left, and out again to the left this time, and so on.

Ickey Shuffle

Adopting a waltz-like 1,2,3 rhythm, step into the first box right foot first, then with your left foot, before the right foot steps out to the opposite side, and the left foot leads into the next box.
