Denim Goals

At 32 Cristiano Ronaldo is still at the peak of his powers. On his home planet it rains only goals and trophies, and has done for more than a decade. At some point, they will both have to dry up. Although we reckon he could play centre-forward for a League Two team well into his sixties, he has other ideas.

“I’ve always cared about fashion,” he tells FS, as he prepares to launch his own denim brand. “One of the first things I did when I signed my first contract was go and buy a great pair of jeans.”

Does he think footballers are more fashion conscious now than when he turned pro in 2002?

“Today’s footballers are more in the public eye, and therefore we always have to be conscious of how we look,” says Ronaldo, whose bid for a second La Liga and Champions League double with Real Madrid hots up this month. “What’s great about CR7 Denim is that it’s designed for people that want to look their best, but feel great while doing it.

“CR7 Denim is designed to reflect top brands, but without the same price tag. When I’m shopping, I look for good design, quality and comfort – mainly comfort. People shouldn’t have to compromise on comfort to feel fashionable and stylish. Without comfort, clothes lose their purpose.”

But how did Europe’s finest-ever power forward even begin to start making clothes? “We partnered with Uniti Fashion, a world-leader in manufacturing and design,” he says. “It was Uniti that helped me achieve a premium denim range for a price point that’s accessible for my fans – which is what I challenged them to do. I’m convinced that if you love denim, you’ll love CR7 denim.”
